The Joshua Project

The Joshua Project ... leading people to inherit the land.

The Joshua Project is based on Joshua 1:6 “ Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them.”

It is designed to help people discover what their ‘land' or ‘ministry' is. The aim of the project is to equip ordinary people to work in their local churches and to give them a vision for mission in their own communities.

The Joshua Project

The Joshua Project began as a three week course and has now been published as a book.

(Extract from book)
What is your land? Your land is a place of adventure, of vision, of desire, of dreaming ... if only! Your land is the place that puts a smile on your face and a spring in your step, the place that has your name written all over it!
The Bible inspires us to dream, to stretch further than we have been before. It encourages us to give up our small ambitions and reach for the sky.

Stretch

Our aim is to establish links with churches and pastors overseas and join them with individuals and churches here in the UK or the USA . The idea is that people who have plenty stretch out to those with little, like Boaz and Ruth.

Ivory Coast

Pastors Solomon and Armande (with their daughter Nora) pastor the Living Foundation International Church in Abidjan, La Cote d'Ivoire.

Solomon is originally from Ghana and God has given him La Cote d'Ivoire as his ‘Garden of Eden'.

They are reaching out to the poorest people in a difficult area. God has promised that He will build His church on the prostitutes and those in greatest need. Already they are seeing amazing growth. The prostitutes are coming in and are changing by the power of God.

Solomon has a passion for the lost and to see Christians live the victorious Christian life.

His people are a lively, passionate worshipping community who are learning that the Lord has placed them in Abidjan to win it for Him.

Please pray for them as they have had much opposition in the area and are trampling over the enemy. The Ivory Coast has suffered much in the past few years and it is a land in desperate need of the Saviour.

Pakistan

I first visited Pakistan in March 2004 and it was an experience that I will not easily forget. The people are so warm and friendly and they love the Word of God. Even the children sit and listen eagerly to the stories of Jesus.

Pastor Javed and his wife To go to places where few westerners go, have armed guards at all the meetings and sit through worship that I could not understand but feel the presence and anointing of the Lord was mind blowing. Some congregations were 2000+ and in one meeting alone 1000+ responded for salvation. Nearly all the meetings were outside as they have no buildings. Also what was amazing was the number of Moslems at the services on one of the Sundays and to see many of them worshipping the Lord with their hands in the air was thrilling. God loves every person and we need to see breakthroughs into the Moslem community. The people of Pakistan were so warm and welcoming to me and yet so poor also. They have many needs and yet see God move in each meeting.

Rev. Javed Nawab is chairperson of Gospel Pentecostal Church of Pakistan, which has 108 pastors, evangelists and Bible women working across Pakistan . The headquarters is in Karachi where there are more than 250 members in the church. Christians have been the target of some attacks from militants in Karachi but these people love Jesus and are doing their best to serve Him.

Ethiopia

Prison Fellowship Ethiopia (PFE) is led by Pastor Daniel and assisted by Lemi Daba. They have a large team working with them to reach and transform the prisons in the nation of Ethiopia .

PFE has been involved in leading many thousands of these prisoners to Christ. They have also brought much needed improvement to the prison environment in the form of sanitation and clean water.

Many of the PFE workers have been inside prison themselves for their faith, so they know what it is like to be abandoned and without hope. They are seeking to bring hope through the Gospel and through practical help. They are involved in bringing restoration to these prisons, their families, the prison officers, their home villages, and ultimately to the country.

They are involved in setting up training for the prisoners and running a sponsorship scheme to provide chaplains to work alongside the prisoners both inside and when they get out of prison.

We have had the privilege of sharing the gospel in the prisons. The men's prisons held 1500-2000 men and they nearly all respond when they hear that Jesus died for them.

In April 2004 and February 2005 we held training sessions for over 80 local pastors in Addis Ababa . Some of those ministers told me that they never take a day off and that they never get a chance to be ministered to as they are giving out all the time. I see it as so important to just encourage those who are working for God.

Ghana

Our involvement in Ghana is in 3 areas:

  1. Holding preaching campaigns both in the churches and in the open air. We have seen many people come to know Jesus. In January 2005 we showed the film ‘The Passion of the Christ', and on the last night almost the entire crowd came to the front to find Jesus.
  2. Each year we hold a Parliamentary banquet in conjunction with the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship. I have been so excited each January to be able to address many MPs at the beginning of each new Parliamentary year.
  3. We have been involved in standing alongside Pastor Osmond in seeing a new orphanage built and established for his young children.
