Simplicity
I was in the christian bookshop recently and I was again mesmorised by how many books are written on what seems to be endless subjects. They all seem to advocate being better at what you do. Now I'm not knocking that because its good to strive to be better but sometimes they steal away reality like when things go wrong you can feel second class or that you obviously didn't read and pray enough.
There was books on how to be a better christian, better husband, wife, dad, emplyer/employee, there was even one on how to have better pets! (I kid you not) Like come on folks the Bible is a simple book for simple people, full of little nuggets for life.
Listen this wee verse I read this morning, Psalm 119:9 "How can a young man stay pure? By obeying Your Word. Simple or what!

I am growing more and more in love with my bible every day, especially recently, but I do find it difficult to understand at times.
I love books that back up what they say with scripture references. I find this helpful as it immediately makes me reach for my bible and look at what my translation of the same verse says.
I asked God to increase a desire for His word in my heart so I could get to know 'The book of the Lord' as well as 'The Lord of the book' and I really feel closer to Him now.
I know that will be no surprise to you Phil as you preach on it. I got the theory but the when it started to happen in practice I was surprised. Guess I gotta be more expectant!
