Rock Flowers
Psalm 60:3 says "You have shown your pople desperate times". I'm glad the psalmist gives us an insight into the hidden things of God and allows us to see that it wasn't all wonderful and rosey but actually there were some pretty desperate times as well. I've had a busy few weeks and while feeling the tiredness of that in my body I also have been reflecting over my life which bears a few scars and I was beginning to feel a bit sorry for myself, bet you've done that.
A few weeks ago I scaled a few new mountains in the Mournes and on one of the very rocky crags I found some beautiful pink flowers. The thing that amazed me about them was that they were growing out of a crevice in the rocks. I'm not a wonderful gardener but I did inquire as to what these flowers were and a friend told me they are simply called "ROCK FLOWERS". They bloom and grow only on the rocks were you can see no soil.
Now as a preacher that got a sermon brewing right away (my kids say I can get a sermon out of anything) and I wondered about God's ROCK FLOWERS, maybe your one that has grown through difficult times. Financial trouble can wreck a man business but grow his character while affliction to the outer body can build inner strength.
I think today that while God loves His roses and lilies there is a special place in His heart for His ROCK FLOWERS.

I SAW THIS ON A WEB SITE
POEM UNFOLDING THE ROSE
It is only a tiny rosebud
A flower of Gods own design
But i cannot unfold the petals
with these clumsy hands of mine
The secret of unfolding a flower
is not known to such as i
God opens this flower so sweetly
When in my hands they just fade and die
If i cannot unfold a rosebud
This flower of Gods own design
Then how can i hope to have the wisdom
To fold this old life that's mine
So i trust in him for his leads
each moment of every day
I will look to him always for guidence
Each step of this poor pilgrims way
The pathway that lies out before me
Only my Heavenly Father knows
So ill trust him to unfold each moment
Just like the petals of each lovely rose
