Forgetting
The Apostle paul writes in Philippians 3:13 "Forgetting those things that are past and looking forward to what lies ahead". I think what he had in mind here was not a lapse of memory or a brain wash idea rather he is talking about what you focus on.
I think forgiving someone does not neccesarrily make you forget it nor does it intend that. It's back to peeling the onion idea that I suggested, there are things in the past that are better not focused on, getting our eyes on what God has for us seems to be the emphasis of the Apostles message.
Isaiah 43 is another powerful chapter which talks a lot about Gods promise of victory to Israel, He reminds of the things that He done for Israel in the wildernes and then in verse 18 He says, "But forget all that, It is nothing compared to what I'm going to do. For I am about to do something new. See I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I suggest that what Isaiah is insinuating is that continually living in the past can rob you of the new thing that God has for you.
The wisest man in all the world, Solomon put it like this in Proverbs 23:7 "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he". That simply means you will lean to what you think about, if thats a hurtful past or a prominent future, you and I will have to decide that.
