Driven 3
Yesterday we finished of by asking the question, "How do we get purpose? and the conclusion is to love God and serve others. Today I was pondering the question, How can I fulfil the needs of others? In John 13:5 I find Jesus sitting at the feet of His disciples washing their feet. He was demonstrating a level of love for them that they had never saw before. This was Jesus, the Son of God, He had raised the dead, healed the sick, opened blind eyes, cast out demons, walked on water and yet now He was pouring out water and washing these guys feet. This was the reversal of world order and Peter couldn't handle it.
In John 21:3-17 Jesus is raised from the dead, He is in His glorified body, He has conquered sin, death, hell and the grave. He is the master and commander of the universe and He is on His way to sit at the right hand of God His Father. He stops at a shore side and starts cooking breakfast. Those nail peirced hands gathered wood gutted fish and cooked. I wondered why He didn't just speak it into cooking and I think it's because He loved and lived to serve.
A servant is always found where His master is, He's not a free agent or an independant of. So all that to say this, your gift and ability is not your purpose, they should serve your purpose. We should be DRIVEN by God. Psalm 149:4a "The Lord takes pleasure in His people".
1 Cor 13:3b "No matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I'm bankrupt without love". (message)
Mother Teresa said It's not what you do, but how much love you put into it that matters.
Do I, do you LOVE to serve?

Hi Phil
was on Als blog so thought i'd follow the link to yours see how you are getting on. great to see that you have reached the 10 mile stone at ECF. you have certainly been at the heart of all the good that has been accomplished through the church during that time. may i thank you for the influence you were upon me as i went to the church for a short period in its infancy, for opening up your home to me, and always receiving me with warmth and hospitality.
i hope that the next 10 years will be filled with tender mercies, and that the cup you take, filled with bitterness and pain as it has been, will continually overflow with joy and laughter
