Sleep
Have you ever noticed that in the Genesis account of creation that Evening and Morning where always said in that order. We would say Morning and Evening so how come God puts it this way? Could it be that day starts with night in Gods eyes and the most important thing in the discipline of knowing God is actually coming to Him with a well slept body and mind? The Jewish Sabbath did not begin at sunrise but actually at sunset. We live in a world where an average 24,000 people die every year in car accidents caused by sleep deprivation and fatigue. Lack of sleep makes for more unhappy marriages, causes people to be less loving, more irritable with their kids and friends and generally makes us miserable, if you don’t believe me, get around a person with a sleeping disorder and check it out.
I believe the number one problem to spending time with God and especially prolonged times in prayer comes from not getting enough sleep. Remember when Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane the disciples fell asleep while yet at another time in the boat when Jesus slept they where stiff with fear and wondered how Jesus could sleep. The problem was they slept when they should have been awake and they where awake when they should have been sleeping. They had a sleep disorder.
Here’s a question to ponder today. Could the way you go to sleep at night actually affect and set the tone for the next day? And can I spend 10 minutes in prayer during the day without nodding off?
A few habits of mine are, not to drink coffee prior to going bed, not to watch TV just before bed, then to climb in and reflect the day with God, commit it all to Him and keel over and sleep. Hope this helps!

Pastor Phil, what about people like me who get v. hyper when lacking sleep. I have been so hyper due to sleep deprivation recently that I can't get to bed and sleep! People have commented on my upbeat nature and happy glow! I may be an exception. P.S. If you'd like to return a reply then try my email: roasthoney@hotmail.com
