God's Eyes
One of the things I’ve had to learn in my experience as a Pastor is that most of the struggles in people’s lives including my own are to do with identity. Battles are won and lost in your mind, someone once said, “Whether you think you can or cannot, your probably right”. I have continually told myself that its whats inside me, not outside that controls my destiny and decides who I am. Now in this idea of identity I have found that everyone I have met has three basic needs. 1. A sense of belonging, everyone alive has a need to belong to someone or something. 2. A sense of worthiness, whether your 9 or 90 you like to think your good enough. and 3. A sense of competence, there's a thing inside us all that says, "I can do this". When these three principles are at work properly our identity starts to determine our direction and a destiny is formed. Its not rocket science, just common sense really. In Luke 4 when Jesus was tempted by the devil, one of the questions the devil ask Jesus was, "If you are the Son of God". He was trying to sow doubt and my thought is this, if he would do that with Jesus do you not think he would do it on you and I. I believe self doubt is the biggest hindrance to fullfilment. Proverb 23:7 say's "As a man thinks in his heart so is he". Please forgive me as I've changed it slightly, "The me I see is the me I'll be". We need to begin to see ourselves through GOD'S EYES. I'll tell you how tomorrow.
