Holy Week
This week is what some Christians refer to as Holy Week - the week which leads us into Easter. In Lurgan like many towns the churches come together for united meetings, sharing communion together on the Thursday night. This week the meetings are being held in Hill St Presbyterian Church 7:45-9pm. Sitting in the meeting on Monday night I had that strange but beautiful feeling I have had at different occasions over the last few years.....I love the church. For all it's wierdness, quirkiness, variety and eccentricity...i love it and there is nothing like it when it is working properly. Yes, segments of the church through history have got it terribly wrong and to be honest at times it still does but there is something mysteriously and wonderfully holy about the church when it gets it right. It is the unstoppable, subversive force for good, beauty and truth in the world; adding the God-colours and God-flavours to a world of hopelessness and emptiness. I want to be part of Jesus' work in building His church, through which He will bless the world, knowing that the gates of hell cannot prevail against it.
On Monday night, being surrounded by people from different backgrounds, young and old, I came to realise more and more that I love the church of Jesus Christ - this assortment of wonderfully wierd, broken, diverse, beautiful people that Jesus calls His bride.
My prayer is that in Lurgan, the Bride of Jesus will become increasingly beautiful, realising the hope of His calling upon it and understanding its mandate as the light of the world. So if you can, get along to the meetings this week and be blessed.
Our final week of prayer, is also taking place in the Elim church this week. Get along to it also and sign up for a slot.
